Despite being hurt, woman had the presence of mind to alert her society, as she threw bowls out of kitchen window catching the kids’ attention; she survives, but her husband, who suffered severe injuries to his neck and chest, passes away

Supriya Chiplunkar, 67, is working in the kitchen of their flat no. 207 at Samarth SRA Sahkari Grah Nirman Sanstha in Jogeshwari East. Around 7.30 pm on Monday, their caretaker Pappu Gawli, whom they hired just 15 days back, goes to the kitchen, picks up a knife and tries to slit her throat. Hearing his wife’s cries for help, Sudhir Chiplunkar, 70, rushes in. Illustrations/Uday Mohite

Sudhir grabs Gawli’s hand and Supriya, who has sustained a shallow cut in the throat, falls near the window. Gawli turns around and stabs Sudhir in the neck and as he falls on the floor, the caretaker stabs him in the chest, too. But Sudhir does not let go of Gawli
