There will not be any vaccinations this Saturday and Sunday at the public vaccination centres. According to sources, this was decided to ensure that doses are given to senior citizens awaiting their second shots in a drive next week.

However, along with HN Reliance and Nanavati, three other private hospitals have procured vaccine doses and started their long stalled vaccination drive. They include Kohinoor hospital, Criticare hospital and Kokilaben hospital. While the drive for the age group 18 to 44 years has been halted in public centres, it is going on at the private centres.
Vaccination for senior citizens will be through walk-ins only for second dose beneficiaries in a three-day long drive from Monday. The civic body is waiting for more vaccine doses to carry out the drive without any bumps. Sources said the drive for the 18 to 44 age group is unlikely to start any time soon as the BMC wants the 45 years and above age group to be inoculated.

On Friday, despite increasing the number of centres, the numbers of vaccinated beneficiaries was very little compared to the time when the drive was started. This is due to limited slots available online as there is a shortage of vaccines. There were about 23,924 beneficiaries inoculated at various civic, government and private centrrs. There were two cases of adverse effects reported on Friday.
The city has so far inoculated 28,41,349 beneficiaries, out of which 7,19,776 have been administered both the doses. At least 11,353 beneficiaries received the first dose on Friday and 12,571 received the second dose.
