The Restaurant on Wheels rail coach at CSMT
After making a splash at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), the popular Restaurant on Wheels rail coach will soon cater to diners at Dadar station. Presently functional at Nagpur, apart from CSMT, the modified coach mounted on rails is a fine-dining eatery that offers a unique experience and accommodates more than 40 patrons at a time. The restaurant has been decorated in such a way that customers can soak in the rail-themed setting.

“The Restaurants on Wheels at CSMT and Nagpur stations were opened under the Non-Fare Revenue Scheme and have become landmark eating houses, seeing approximately 1,25,000 and 1,50,000 visitors respectively from their opening to date. The Restaurant on Wheels theme is a superb example of a passenger-friendly initiative combined with a novel revenue-generation idea,” he said.
The restaurant at CSMT had its opening on October 18, 2021, while its counterpart started serving meals on February 3, 2022. The rates of dishes and the menu are decided by the licensee as per market rates approved by railways. North, South, continental and other types of cuisine are served at the eateries, which are open to passengers as well as the general public.
