The Western Railway on Thursday said they had further intensified the drive against those not wearing masks. The RPF's Mumbai boss has written to the BMC to step up the drive on railway premises and form teams that could work jointly to enforce the mask rule. CR also said they have joined hands with BMC to intensify the drive.
Clean-up marshals have now been authorised to travel onboard local trains for 24 hours to catch and fine defaulters.

Following a rise in the number of cases, the railways and the BMC have decided to go in for stricter measures against those who do not follow rules.

Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar on Wednesday travelled on a local train from Byculla to CSMT and urged people to wear masks. “After Railway services resumed, COVID-19 cases spiked not just in Mumbai but the entire state. A lockdown won't be implemented, but the situation is worrisome,” said Pednekar.

In the past 15 days, on CR, action has been taken against 2,060 cases recovering a fine of R1,21,600 with the highest number of 1,715 cases at CSMT itself. On WR, there were 2,558 cases with fines recovered to the tune of R3,28,500.

In the last three days, over 400 cases have been detected on both the railway lines.
