NMMC had started inoculation at 5 centres. After finding the speed of the vaccinations slow, Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar had told authorities to increase vaccination centres, and now 10 centres are engaged in the drive. “We are happy with the speed of vaccinations. We are now preparing to increase vaccination centres and are in the process of submitting a proposal to the state government for the same,” said Bangar.
At least 19,805 people have registered for vaccination in phase 1. “Initially, we inoculated 500 health workers at the five centres every day, but a couple of days ago, we doubled the number. Now every day we vaccinate 1,000 people. On Thursday, there was 102% compliance, as more than 1,019 were vaccinated,” said an officer from NMMC’s Health Department. The daily turnout for the vaccinations so far has been 86 per cent.
Before the vaccination drive, 19,805 health workers including corporation and private sector employees had registered with NMMC. But as the vaccinations are going on smoothly, and many prominent and senior doctors from the city are taking them, inquiries have increased. “We are getting more and more calls from health workers now ," said Dr Ratnaprabha Chavhan, In charge of the vaccination programme in NMMC. “Considering the response we have prepared 40 more vaccination centres, which can take the drive to a large scale," Dr Chavhan added.
Only one case of AEFI

The person who received the vaccine on January 25 at Airoli Hospital felt mild dizziness, but recovered soon. At least four others complained of pain in the arm, but no serious reaction has been observed till now.
