Second day in a row, city sees less than 500 cases

For the second consecutive day, Mumbai reported less than 500 fresh Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. While 453 fresh infections were reported, fatalities remained constant at 10. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) report, the city’s test positivity rate (TPR) saw a marginal improvement at 1.48 per cent on Tuesday. The TPR on Monday was 1.59 per cent.


After registering a TPR of more than 2 per cent on June 27, it has remained below 2 since then. The city reported the highest number of cases — 11,163 on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR since May 5, when it was 10.96 per cent. The doubling rate has improved and is currently 822 days. 


Of the 10 deaths reported in the city, four patients had comorbidities, six deaths were of those above 60 years of age, while four were of patients in the 40-60 age group. The city’s recovery rate is constant at 96 per cent as 482 people were discharged after full recovery on Tuesday. 


Cases rise in state

The state’s new Covid-19 cases saw a significant rise on Tuesday. As per the state report, 8,418 cases were reported across the state. The Covid-19 fatalities in the state also saw a significant rise as 171 deaths were reported.

Maharashtra’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent. About 10,548 patients were discharged after full recovery on Tuesday. Currently, the state has 1.14 lakh active cases.  

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a significant drop in new cases. The MMR reported 1,564 fresh infections on Tuesday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai saw 115 cases and Raigad 481.

26 deaths in MMR

Thane reported 81 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili saw 88 and Vasai-Virar 49. 

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 26 Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday. Raigad reported 16 deaths, highest in MMR. Mira-Bhayandar, Palghar and Vasai-Virar reported one death each.
