Apart from the regular monsoon preparations, about 59.8 km of tracks will be raised this year in Mumbai to avoid flooding and waterlogging along both railway routes. While 47.8 km of track lifting has been planned on the Central Railway Mumbai division, about 12 km of track lifting is planned on the Mumbai suburban line of the Western Railway

After the construction of a water storage tank near Milan Subway at a cost of Rs 47 crore, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is now making an additional water channel and deploying two pumps to ensure water accumulated at the location is diverted into the tank

Work to increase the capacity of the Mogra nullah at the Andheri subway has been stalled due to traffic congestion linked to the delay in the construction of Gokhale bridge. Andheri subway is often closed to traffic during the rainy season as it is a chronic waterlogging point

To tackle the issue, the BMC's stormwater department decided to create a sump pit upstream of the subway on the east side. “A 1,600-mm pipeline will also be laid from Andheri subway to Bhardawadi Road using the trenchless micro-tunnelling method,” said a BMC official
The BMC claims it has completed 99 per cent of its pre-monsoon nullah cleaning work on Wednesday, a week prior to the May 31 deadline.Of the 9.80 lakh tonnes of silt to be removed by May 31, the BMC removed 9.74 lakh tonnes so far. Of this, 1,92,517 tonnes of waste was removed from the approximately 146 km network of major nullahs in the western suburbs
