Meet the group that welcomes stunt-loving bikers, irrespective of the brand of their bike

Think 'rubber smoking angels' and you are bound to conjure up images of roaring bikes performing doughnuts, wheelies and other tricky manoeuvres. No wonder then that 27-year-old Rohit Paradkar and his friend Chetan Manohar chose this phrase as the name of their bike club when they formed it way back in 2003.
Elaborating on the name, Paradkar said, "When we formed Rubber Smokin' Angels (RSA), the stunt scene was just gaining momentum in India. We wanted to concentrate on bike stunts. We also wanted to state that we were a group of angels nothing negative associated with it."
Paradkar added that he and Manohar had noticed that bikers tend to hang around with others who owned bikes of the same brand. "We wanted to create a meeting place for all bikers, irrespective of which bike they rode.
That's why we started this community," said Paradkar. As the word spread, more bike lovers joined the duo.
"Now, we have 80 members," said Paradkar with a sense of pride.
For Bhuvan Chowdhary (26) it's been a "brilliant experience". Said Varad More (25), another member, "We celebrate the spirit of two wheels. If you want to have fun on two wheels, and I mean safely, you're in."
Safety first
For RSA members, biking comes with a sense of responsibility. "With more powerful bikes being introduced, we feel people should be more responsible. They should know the dangers involved and shouldn't be a nuisance. As true bikers, they should be more committed," said Paradkar.
The group is now looking forward to its sixth anniversary, which falls on this Friday.
