Moose Wala's murder: Eight people arrested so far, says Punjab Police

The Punjab Police on Tuesday said it has arrested eight people so far in connection with the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. They have been held on the charges of providing logistic support, conducting recce and harbouring the shooters of the singer, said police. Police also said they have identified four shooters who were involved in the crime. Those arrested have been identified as Sandeep Singh, alias Kekda, of Sirsa, Haryana; Manpreet Singh, alias Manna, of Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda; and Manpreet Bhau of Dhaipai, Faridkot. Others who have been held are Saraj Mintu of Dode Kalsia village, Amritsar; Prabhdeep Sidhu, alias Pabbi, of Takhat-Mall, Haryana; Monu Dagar of Rewli village in Sonipat, Haryana; Pawan Bishnoi and Naseeb, both residents of Fatehabad, Haryana. On May 29, Moose Wala was shot dead in Punjab's Mansa district. The state police had termed the incident a case of an inter-gang rivalry and had said the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was behind it. Canada-based Goldy Brar, who is a member of Bishnoi gang, had claimed the responsibility for the murder. This murder was in retaliation of youth Akali leader Vicky Middukhera's murder that took place last year. Additional Director General of Police Pramod Ban, who heads the anti-gangster task force, said Sandeep, alias Kekda, on the directions of Goldy Brar and Sachin Thapan had kept tabs on the singer's movements by impersonating himself as his fan. Kekda also clicked selfies with the singer when the latter was leaving his home minutes before his murder, said Ban. "Kekda has shared all inputs like the singer was not accompanied by his security personnel, number of occupants, vehicle details and he is travelling in non-bullet-proof vehicle Mahindra Thar, with the shooters and handlers operating from abroad," ADGP Ban said as he was disclosing the role of each accused in the crime. The ADGP said Manpreet Manna had provided a Toyota Corolla car to Manpreet Bhau, who further delivered the car to two persons-suspected to be the shooters--on the directions of Saraj Mintu, who is a close aide of Goldy Brar and Sachin Thapan. Also Read: Sidhu Moose Wala murder: Punjab govt request for probe by sitting HC judge turned down, say sources The ADGP said fifth accused Prabhdeep Sidhu, alias Pabbi, had provided shelter to two associates of Goldy Brar, who came from Haryana in January, 2022, and also got conducted recce of Moose Wala's home and surrounding areas through them. Monu Dagar had provided two shooters and helped assemble the team of shooters to carry out this murder the directions of Goldy Brar, said police.Pawan Bishnoi and Naseeb had handed over a Bolero vehicle to the shooters and also provided them with a hideout, said Ban. Ban said four shooters involved in the murder of Moose Wala have been identified. "Names of other persons belonging to Punjab and other states have also emerged, who had played a role in planning, providing logistic support, arms and ammunition and hideouts to the criminals, who carried out this dastardly act," said Ban. Strategy-based cohesive efforts are being made by the SIT along with various units of Punjab Police and other agencies to arrest the accused, he said. Operations are being carried out in different states simultaneously to nab the accused at the earliest, said Ban. ADGP Ban said the Special Investigation Team, headed by IGP Jaskaran Singh, has been working strategically and cohesive efforts are being made to arrest the identified shooters and other accused persons involved in the murder. Moose Wala was shot dead, a day after the state government curtailed his security cover. His cousin and a friend, who were travelling in a jeep with him, were also injured in the attack. A CCTV footage, which later emerged on social media, showed that the vehicle of Moose Wala was being followed by a Corolla car in Jawahar Ke village. Then the Bolero vehicle stopped in front of Moose Wala's Thar and then the occupants of the Corolla and Bolero vehicles started indiscriminate firing at the singer. The Punjab police had set up the special investigation team (SIT) to probe the murder Moose Wala, under the supervision of the head of the anti-gangster task force (AGTF). Congress slams govt over inflation, says stop resorting to 'optical delusion'

A day after the government cut excise duty on petrol and diesel, the Congress on Sunday accused the BJP of resorting to "trickery" to create an "optical delusion'' and said the people deserve genuine relief from the "record inflation". In a tweet, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi compared petrol prices between May 1, 2020 and now, and said the "government must stop fooling citizens". "Petrol Prices - May 1, 2020: Rs 69.5, Mar 1, 2022: Rs 95.4, May 1, 2022: Rs 105.4, May 22, 2022: Rs 96.7m Now, expect Petrol to see 'Vikas' in daily doses of Rs 0.8 and Rs 0.3 again," Gandhi said. Petrol PricesMay 1, 2020: ₹69.5Mar 1, 2022: ₹95.4May 1, 2022: ₹105.4May 22, 2022: ₹96.7Now, expect Petrol to see ‘Vikas’ in daily doses of ₹0.8 and ₹0.3 again.Govt must stop fooling citizens. People deserve genuine relief from record inflation. — Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) May 22, 2022 "Govt must stop fooling citizens. People deserve genuine relief from record inflation," he said on Twitter. At a press conference at the AICC headquarter here, Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh accused the Modi government of being "high on political gimmick" and low on relief. "The BJP government's cluelessness about the economy and financial management has been out in the open for long now. Instead of accepting it and seeking guidance from experts, the BJP only resorts to trickery to create an optical delusion," Vallabh alleged. In yet another instance, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman put out a series of tweets announcing a series of actions that were purely meant to create a "delusion", he alleged. "The FM announced a reduction of Rs. 8 per litre on petrol and Rs. 6 per litre in Central Excise. While it may seem a significant reduction in absolute terms, the point of contention doesn't change," he argued, citing figures of Rs 9.48 excise duty in 2014 and Rs. 19.9 in May 2022. "Three steps forward and two steps back doesn't mean it leads to any improvement in the lives of the common people," the Congress leader said. Vallabh also cited that the excise per liter on diesel in April 2014 was Rs. 3.56 and in May 2022 is Rs 15.8. "The prices are back to the March 2022 numbers. Were the common people pleased with the fuel prices in March 2022? The answer is No. "Is the government still charging a hefty excise on fuel? The answer is Yes. True relief will only come when excise will be reduced to 2014 levels," he stressed. Petrol prices have increased by Rs. 10 per litre in the last 60 days and then comes a reduction of Rs. 9.5 per litre, Vallabh said and asked, "Isn't this trickery".Diesel prices have increased by Rs. 10 per litre in the last 60 days and then comes a reduction of Rs. 7 per litre. he said, asking how is this welfare. Vallabh pointed out that LPG prices have increased by 142 per cent between May-2014 and May-2022. "LPG prices have increased by more than Rs. 400 in the last 18 months. Providing Rs 200 reduction doesn't mean the welfare of the people but just sucking the blood in lower volumes," he alleged. He also questioned the Finance Minister claim that the inflation has remained lower in the BJP's tenure. "WPI in April 2022 stood at 15.1 per cent and retail inflation stood at 7.79 per cent. The inflation target band set by the RBI is 2 to 6 per cent. Inflation is killing the common people," he said. "Madam FM mentioned that her government is devoted to the welfare of the poor. The true face of your devotion to the welfare of the poor lies in the Oxfam report that claimed that, in 2021, the income of 84 per cent of households fell while the number of billionaires grew. Which welfare is she talking about?" he said. Demanding answers from the government, Vallabh asked what is preventing the BJP government from announcing relief measures for the common people."Why to resort to just optical delusion instead of concrete measures?" he said. Will the BJP government guarantee that the excise duties on petrol and diesel will not increase for the next two years of their tenure, he asked.Vallabh also questioned the government as to what measures are being taken to bring down the inflation to the lower end of the 2 to 6 per cent band set by the RBI. Petrol price on Sunday was slashed by Rs 8.69 a litre and diesel by Rs 7.05 per litre following the government cutting excise duty on auto fuels to give relief to consumers battered by high fuel prices that have also pushed inflation to a record high. 'Chaddi' row: Siddaramaiah asks why post of RSS chief never occupied by Dalit

As the 'Chaddi' row between the BJP and Congress escalates, former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah attacked the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and asked why the post of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief has never been occupied by a Dalit or a person from Other Backward Castes (OBCs). The row started after some members National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, burnt a pair of khaki shorts outside state education minister BC Nagesh's residence against the alleged "saffronisation" of school textbooks in the state. "I am telling you from the beginning that RSS is a non-secular organisation. Has a Dalit, OBC or a member from minority communities ever become Sarsanghchalak? What else can chaddis do? They do chaddi work only, chaddis do chaddi work," said Siddramaiah in Hubli. Siddaramaiah was responding to a question about RSS workers collecting knickers to send them to the Congress office. RSS workers in Mandya district have collected shorts to send to the Congress office as a mark of their protest against Siddaramaiah's remarks against RSS Khaki shorts. Also read: Karnataka: Opposition leader Siddaramaiah slams BJP over anti-conversion law On Sunday, the Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly had said that 'chaddis' would be burnt as a sign of protest against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for alleged "saffronisation" of school textbooks in the state. Responding to Siddaramaiah's remarks, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said that the Congress leader should talk about the development and future of the state. "Congress leader Siddaramaiah doesn't have any other subject, so he is talking about such things. People of Karnataka looking into all these things. He should talk about the development and future of the state," Bommai said. Meanwhile, Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh said that Congress aims to politicise the textbook issue for the Assembly elections scheduled to be held next year. "Their (Congress) aim is not the textbook, but to politicise the issue for elections. For the last 65 years, they were teaching false things to the students," Nagesh said. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said, "Siddaramaiah and Congress party's chaddi is loose already. They have torn chaddi. So they have gone ahead to burn chaddi. Their chaddi was lost in UP. Siddaramaiah lost his chaddi and lungi in Chamundeshwari."BJP leader Chalavadi Narayanswamy asked Siddaramaiah to seek permission from the pollution control board as burning chaddis would cause air pollution. "If Siddaramaiah wants to burn chaddis, let him burn inside his house. I have told all District Presidents of SC Morcha to help Siddarammiah by sending their chaddis to him. Firstly, I ask Siddaramaiah to seek permission from the pollution control board because burning chaddis causes air pollution. I never thought Siddaramaiah would stoop to this level," he said. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Karnataka government has been embroiled in a controversy after the textbook review committee included RSS founder KB Hedgewar's speech in school textbooks, while allegedly omitting chapters on freedom fighters, social reformers and litterateurs. However, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai later disbanded the state textbook review committee but defended the inclusion of a chapter on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder KB Hedgewar.  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. MVA leaders should contact us if they want support for RS polls: Owaisi

Ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections, the AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi claimed no one from the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra has contacted his party for support. "If they want our support, they should contact us," Owaisi told reporters in Nanded. The All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has two members in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, which forms the electoral college for the Rajya Sabha polls, scheduled on June 10. After more than two decades, the state will witness a contest in the Rajya Sabha polls as there are seven candidates in the fray for six seats. The Shiv Sena has fielded two candidates, its MVA allies NCP and Congress have nominated one candidate each, while the opposition BJP has put up three candidates. The AIMIM held a meeting in Nanded on Monday, but the party did not come up with any decision on support to the MVA or the BJP. On Tuesday, Owaisi said, "No one from the MVA has contact us or our MLAs in Maharashtra. If they want our support, they should contact us." 'If they don't want our support, it is ok. We are talking to our MLAs. We will take a decision in a day or two," he added. However, AIMIM MP from Aurangabad, Imtiaz Jaleel, told PTI that they have some issues pertaining to the constituencies held by their party in the state. "We will keep those issues before the government also. If the MVA wants to defeat the BJP, the ruling alliance should openly seek support of the AIMIM," Jaleel said. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MLC Ambadas Danve said MVA leaders will take a decision on Owaisi's proposal (put forth through media). "Nothing much will come out by speaking to media. The AIMIM should directly talk to senior MVA leaders," he said. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Lawrence Bishnoi denies role in threat letter to Salman Khan, father Salim Khan

Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has denied any involvement in the threat letter sent to actor Salman Khan and his father Salim Khan. According to reports, Bishnoi, who is in jail, had previously vowed to kill Salman Khan for the latter's alleged involvement in the blackbuck poaching case.
