Taking up cudgels for common causes is something Titiksha Nagarkar has been doing for a decade now. In her early 30s, Titiksha, a homemaker, helps her husband Nitin in their farming and dairy business.
In mid 1990s, the couple gave up its flourishing granite business based at Chakan to set up their farm at Bhor, 50 kms from Bavdhan. After marriage, she moved into the city and is an out-and-out Puneite at heart.
"I am a sensitive person. If I come across issues that I feel are not right, I stand up for that. Unlike the common 'jaane do... mujhe kya lena hai' attitude I try to solve any problem that comes my way to the best of my capability," elaborates Titiksha on her passion to take up social issues.
It all started ten years ago, when Titiksha noticed that her neighbour, due to the right connections in the municipal corporation, got water directly from the pipeline, which passed in front her gate, and she did not.
Infuriated at the injustice, she took up the matter and tasted success when after launcing a campaign in the press and rallying neighbours to her support, she got the civic body to get water connections for the locals in the area. Since then she has taken up several cases of social relevance like dug roads, unwanted toll plazas and traffic-related problems. She managed to solve some of the problems she took up, which gave her immense satisfaction. "Whenever I work for some cause, I always getu00a0 a good night's sleep. It is the satisfaction that inspires me to move ahead," she says.
