Although the city traffic police have intensified their drive against drunken driving, the number of those caught breaking the law doesn't seem to come down. In the last three days, cops have booked dozens of people for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Even last night, Sassoon Hospital's casualty register confirmed of 50 people being brought to the hospital to get screened for traces of alcohol in their blood. Out of those 50, two offenders were taken Bund Garden police station. When this reporter enquired about the names of those drunk drivers, Mule, ASI of Bund Garden police station, refused to divulge their names.
He said, "I don't want you to publish their names as they might get disgraced for life. Besides, drunk driving is not a serious offense." When asked the reason why the traffic department is carrying out a major drive then, she said, "Only those who create ruckus on the streets after getting drunk should be punished. Also, the media should only publish their names and pictures."
Mule even added that the duo was just caught unawares.
