Australia-based Anupam Sharma on working with Brett Lee and Bollywood filmmakers

HE is known in Bollywood circles as the man to get in touch with if a project requires to be shot in Australia.

Anupam Sharma, who migrated Down Under in the early 1990s, founded Film and Casting Temple, a company that works on bilateral trade ties between Australia and India in film and media projects. His latest projects are Victory and MTV Roadies.

What are you up to these days?
I am working on the first Indo-Australian co-production, which includes a feature documentary that I am directing. There is also a TV show with cricketer Brett Lee, co-directed by John Winter and I.

How is it handling Brett Lee?
Working with Brett is always a delight. I have worked with him before and my team just goes ga ga over him.

When the team is in Australia, I am inundated with calls by ad filmmakers asking to film in Australia with the cricketers. I am not a cricket fan but it is always encouraging to see a growing professionalism over the years in cricketers who now treat the media/films very professionally.

How was the Roadies experience?
Mostly, a lot of hard work. I am a big foodie, so during the location survey, it was party time with Bumpy, whom we all know as Nature Baba, and his crew. We would try different types of meat and have long nostalgic discussions about authentic Indian food.

You also acted in Heyy Babyy.
Yes, I did... a small role as the doctor if you remember. I saw the baby. I think I also have an acting bug.

What's the latest on your plans to get into production?
I already have. An Indian Summer written by Vikram Singh (his debut directorial film Mastang Mama will be out this year) and The Film written by John Winter are projects that I have been working hard on to see them on the screen.
