For Delhiites interested in online matchmaking, an educated family tops the priority list

Searching for a partner in Delhi not only involves looking for an educated mate but also matching his/ hers family education. Almost 75 per cent of women from Delhi feel it is equally important for their partner's family to be well educated. However, the males were not found to be as savvy about their prospective bride's family bio-data.

'Wordly' wise: Women want to get married in educated families

The figures were revealed by a week-long survey conducted by a leading online matchmaking website. The study was released on International Literacy Day, which was observed Wednesday.

The survey conducted amongst 8,895 Shaadi.com members across the nation, out of which 2,440 were from Delhi. The survey revealed 60 per cent of them are not aware of 'International Literacy Day'.

"The demand of having educated family is exceptionally high among women. For female its 75 per cent and for male it's only 25 per cent. Primarily the reason being, they would have to spend the rest of their lives with their husband's family so they have a stronger reason ensure that they are going in good hands," said Gourav Rakshit, business head of Shaadi.com.

Moreover, 65 per cent of Delhiites feel that similar educational background of their partner would influence their marriage decision. "Women from Delhi are more concerned about their partner's educational background than men. About 75 per cent of the women wanted their partners to be at least post-graduate," Rakshit said.
The matrimonial portal conducted the study to understand the mindsets and partner preferences of prospective brides and grooms with regard to education and literacy.
