'I support Anna'

Speaking to MiD DAY, popular music composer Anu Malik struck a distinct note when he said that Hazare's agitation in support of a strong anti-corruption mechanism was laudable

He was in the Capital regarding a reality show. But with the Anna Hazare movement still making waves, one of Bollywood's biggest music director's Anu Malik too was ready to share his point of view on the matter when MiD DAY caught up with him.

The whole country is in support of Anna Hazare. How do you feel about his agitation?
I completely support Anna Hazare. He is one man who is fighting for everybody rights. The film industry is supporting him. He has finally made the government see sense on the Lokpal Bill issue. I am highly impressed and thankful to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi that they have accepted the conditions.

Everybody is talking about corruption. Do you really feel that we can get rid of it so easily?
I guess the root level of corruption has been pointed out and now we will be able to eradicate it from our country. This is just the first step towards the mission. Even a common man wants to get rid of corruption that is affecting his life at every level. I will just ask people not to give up and believe in truth, honesty and Anna. Rest will follow.

Bollywood is still reeling under the effects of protests on the issue of music royalty. What is your take?
The people who are responsible for creating a song are being neglected and music companies are taking away all the credit. Sometimes the singer gets the credit too, but we are left out. I believe that lyricists too should get the credit.

With so many reality shows on television do you think viewers are starting to lose interest in them?
I don't think so. People still love watching reality shows. They convey the journey and life story of a common man. After the world cup and IPL, people will get back to their daily dose of reality shows.
