Said Kamal Jain, ex-CEO of a telecom major, after his arrest in a hit and run case on Sunday

Kamal Jain, the ex-CEO of a telecom firm, who was arrested in a hit and run case, spent Monday night in the Bundgarden police lock up in company of nine people, out of which four were accused in cases of robbery while three of them were arrested for drunk driving.

Later, on Sunday, he was produced in Court No 3 before a First Class Magistrate, where the police sought his custody for a week. However, the court rejected the police's application as he had undergone a by-pass surgery in the past.

During the initial interrogation Jain revealed that he had parked his vehicle, a Ford Ikon, in front of Hotel Arora Towers in Camp and had gone to buy sweets from Karachi Sweet Mart.

But as the vehicle wasn't parked as per the guiding principle, ASI V B Jadhav tried to apply jammers to the wheels of the vehicle to tow-away it away. It was then that Jain jumped onto the driving seat of the car and accelerated with Jadhav on his bonnet.

For next 15 minutes, heu00a0 drove till Teen Topha Chawk in Camp and in the away, he knocked down Satish Kanholekar and his wife Nilima. Then, DCP Ravindra Sengaonkar opened fire on the tyres after which Jain stopped the car.

Senior PI Suhas Nadgauda told MiD-DAY, "The accused is cooperating. Although, it is not clear why he did not stop, and drove away carrying Jadhav on the bonnet despite repeated commands from the police to stop." According to Nadgauda, Jain had confessed that he was too frightened to stop."
