The CID has asked banks to secure their ATM machines by fixing it firmly to the ground and installing superior quality CCTV cameras

Following spate of robberies in city ATMs, the state CID has asked banks to secure their ATM machines by fixing it to the ground and installing good quality CCTV cameras.

The Director General of Police (CID), D V Guruprasad has asked the banks to follow these security measures on a social networking website.

"If any bank fails to provide satisfactory footage during the investigation, then it's the bank that will be responsible for the loss incurred," he said.

Recently, two ATMs in the city were robbed but the cops didn't get proper footage and hence, had to struggle to get details.

The banks had installed older version of CCTV cameras that stopped working at times. Hence, the DGP also requested banks to replace them with the latest ones.

The premier investigating agency of the state police received good response from the netizens on the social networking site.

Till date, around 650 people have joined the community and exchange suggestions and advice with the cops.

In fact, Guruprasad gets regular update on happenings in the CID, including status of important cases being investigated, through the website.

Also, he replies to the queries posted by the people. Guruprasad has even shared information on how sometimes cases get out of CID hands.

Giving example of Swami Nithyanand, he had stated that cops did not receive any complaint from any of the victims. Photographs of missing people and criminals too are posted on the site.

Speaking to MiD DAY, Guruprasad said, "It's helping to end the breach between people and police. If people have queries, I'll reply to them."
