Jyoti who has been living with her two daughters' says her husband is missing and his father has been trying to exploit her since then. "He has tried to form sexual relationship with me and now he has started beating me. I am really scared for my daughters and my life," she told MiD DAY.

'In-law to outlaw'
"On Sunday morning my father-in-law started hitting me badly over a petty issue. He has done it before. So I immediately called the Palam Colony police station and made a complaint against him. Even before I have reported the matter to the National Commission for Women (NCW) but I see no end to my pain. My father-in-law has tried several times to force me into having sex with him. I objected and told my husband about his behaviour but he did not listen. After that I approached the police and the NCW without any success," said Jyoti

Jyoti Jaiswal was pursuing a course in LLB so that she could take up her case and teach her father-in-law a lesson. The victim, who says her husband has been missing since February last year, claims that she has no options left other than taking the matter to court. She has also alleged that her father-in-law is ill-treats her daughters.u00a0

Unhappily married
Jyoti married Aseem Kumar Badal in 2003. She claims that since the very beginning her husband and his father had been harassing her over dowry issues. The situation took a turn for the worse after she gave birth to her two daughters. Jyoti claims that after this her father-in-law began badgering her to sleep with him, threatening her of severe repercussions if she refused.

"I do all the work for my father-in-law but his only desire is to stay with me. He has also stopped giving me money so I started taking tuitions but he does not even allow students to enter the house and threatens them so that I have no source of earning," Jyoti added.

A local police official said, "We have received the complaint and the woman's father-in-law has maintained that he has no relationship with the lady and will never create problems for her."

German man turns woman, alleges rape
A German man, who underwent a sex change operation to become a woman, has moved an application in a local court pressing charge of rape against a man who refused to marry him. Patrick claimed before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate here that he had homosexual relation with a Kashmiri man in New Delhi some times back and they had decided to get married. Since homosexual marriages are not recognised in India, Patrick decided to undergo a sex change operation to become a woman to be with the man he loved. However, after the operation which cost him Rs 30 lakh, the accused refused to marry him. Patrick moved an application in the court against the person. However, counsel for accused moved an application before the court yesterday challenging the rape charge. "The relation between the two took place when Patrick was still a man. Hence the rape charge cannot be applied. It is now to be examined what procedure he has undergone that has made him a woman," said advocate Bilal Ahmad Bhat, who is representing the accused. The court has kept the matter in abeyance before deciding under what sections the case can be tried.
