The Pune police arrested five members of the Sadashiv Shetty gang, and an accomplice who arranged for their lodging yesterday. The menu00a0allegedly looted a courier service at gunpoint ten days ago in the densely populated Ravivar Peth area. The gang had allegedly used the same guns to loot Rs 4 lakh from State Bank of India's Ambegaon branch in July, and executed several other robberies in banks and jewellery shops in Pune and Mumbai. The gang had also robbed a bank in Bhosari in 2001, and fired on one Anil Bhangadiya in Pimpari in January.
Crime Branch Additional Commissioner Anant Shinde said, "Our persistent efforts have paid. We have managed to arrest these five."
Sources said the four menu00a0Ajit Nayar, Suyog Jambure, Joeb Sheikh and Sachin Dhumal were caught on basis of sketches made from descriptions given by eyewitnesses.
However, some members of the gang are still absconding. DCP Anil Kumbhare said, "We have sent teams to arrest Sadahiv Krishna Shetty alias Dayanand Krishna Moili, Sameer alias Babulal Mujavar and Dilip Mhaendra Thapa, who are responsible for many robberies in Mumbai and Pune."u00a0 Commissioner of Police Dr Satyapal Singh announced a Rs 30,000 award to the investigatingu00a0 team led by Addl Commissioner Anant Shinde, DCP Anil Kumbhare, ACP Sangramsingh Nishandar, PI Sunil Pawar, PI Ram Pathare and others.
