Retired colonel claims despite several complaints the civic agency and cops have not acted against the company
It seems the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has dismissed last month's Lalita Park tragedy from its mind. While sporadic action continues against unauthorised constructions in the city, a retired colonel believes the civic agency is just not doing enough.

Despite several letters to the MCD and the police, no one has come forward to stop the illegal construction work going on at the first floor of Col (retd) Anil Mehta's three-storey house in Defence Colony, he alleges. Colonel Mehta claims the floor has been leased out illegally by his brother.u00a0
Asking to act on the unauthorised construction going on at the house, MCD wrote a letter on August 2 to the station house officer (SHO) of Defence Colony to stop construction work and seize the materials immediately. MiD DAY has access to the contents of the letter. Later MCD officials also filed an FIR with the local police station but no action was taken.
Colonel Mehta's wife Jatinder Mehta alleged that the first floor, which was in the name of the former armyman's brother was sold by him against a will. "The will said that the property can't be sold off by either of the siblings individually. Further it could be used only for residential purpose and can't be used for commercial or office purposes. However the documents were forged and in the cover of lease the property seems to have been sold off."
"After that, the construction work started. We kept running from pillar to post to stop it as it is illegal. Initially MCD officials took interest but later they were bribed by the company to whom the property was sold.
During every meeting we were assured that no further construction would be permitted and premises at the first floor would be sealed. The construction work finally completed in connivance with the police and MCD officials. Now we have filed a case in the Delhi High Court," complained Jatinder Mehta.
According to the colonel, several rounds of letters were written thereafter to various top officials but no action was taken and the company, Alchemist, has even started operations from the house.
Despite repeated attempts, MCD officials were not available for comments.

There is no fraud in the entire deal and no construction work was carried out in the premises. It has been rented out by his brother. The brothers have some personal problems which is affecting us indirectly. They keep troubling us and clients coming to us. The colonel keeps taking pictures of all of them. He also doesn't allow us to keep the area clean. We have also lodged a complaint against him at the police station. |
