Registrars trade charges with Vice-Chancellor Dr Prabhudev
In a unprecedented move, the VC of Bangalore University (BU) has issued orders curtailing powers of varsity registrars.

In a guidelineu00a0 issued on March 29, Dr Prabhudev, the vice-chancellor of BU, transferred the authority vested in the the registrar and registrar (evaluation) to their deputies.
Also, Dr Prabhudev accused the registrar and registrar (evaluation) of erecting hurdles in the way of improvements he wanted to bring in the functioning of the varsity.
"There were instances of malpractice in assessment of answer sheets, which is a major cause of concern. Hence, I decided to set the system right, which is also permissible under law," said Dr Prabhudev.

On the other hand, the registrars have alleged that Dr Prabhudev wants to clip their wings so they don't come in his way when he indulges in corruption.

They alleged that the VC has taken several decisions that involved transactions running into big amounts without consulting them.

They added that the VC wanted to harm them because they had not helped him inu00a0u00a0u00a0 the financial irregularitiesu00a0 he continues to be involved in.

"Dr Prabhudev has ordered printing of answer sheets worth Rs 15 lakh. However, there is sufficient stock available at the varsity.
Moreover, he granted the order to the Manipal Press. This when the job could have been completed at our own varsity press," said M S Talwar, registrar (evaluation).
Also, M G Krishnan, a registrar, said, "Dr Prabhudev is authorised to spend up to Rs 50,000 at a time but he's spending crores of rupees under Abstract Contingency Bill (AC Bill).
Moreover, the VC is gobbling up a large amount of money in the form of salaries paid to fictitious employees."
Refuting all the charges against him, Dr Prabhudev said that he called Talwar for a meeting. "Talwar did not turn up. So, I had to get the answer sheets printed.

Dr Prabhudev has asked the registrar and registrar (evaluation) to clear all university orders, especially the ones pertaining to evaluation of answer sheets, in 72 hours. If they fail to do so, the deputy registrar will issue the orders instead. "This was necessary to speed up the execution, otherwise it takes months to announce the results," said Dru00a0 Prabhudev. |
