'UP police was right about Talwar'

They had declared the dentist as the prime accused in the murder of his daughter way back in May 2008

The first-ever press conference in the Aarushi Talwar case in which the UP police accused Rajesh Talwar of killing his own daughter in May 2008 was probably the first and 'correct' theory.u00a0 "He killed her in a fit of rage ufffdwhen he saw her with the servant in an objectionable position," these were the words of the then IG, Meerut, Gurdarshan Singh, when he did a press conference a few days after Aarushi Talwar and Hemraj's murder on May 18, 2008.

On Wednesday, a CBI court issued summons to both Rajesh and Nupur Talwar and held them accused in the Aarushi murder case. Rejecting the CBI's closure report in the over two-year old,u00a0 twin murder case,u00a0 Judge Preeti Singh took cognisance of the CBI's closure report and issued summons to the parents to appear before her on February 28, declaring them accused on charges of murder, destruction of evidence, conspiracy and common intention to commit the crime.

"We always were of the opinion that the UP cops' theory was the closest to the truth in the case. Instead, the police officers who investigated the case at that time faced flak from all sections and were pulled up for doing a shoddy probe. Now, two years after the incident, the parents have been held accused," a senior police officer from UP said, on condition of anonymity.

Former DGP of UP, Vikram Singh, said the initial state police probe was in the right direction. "I would just reiterate that our investigation was always very professional with emphasis on evidence and its evaluation. Truth will be out soon."u00a0 "The court has taken cognisance of offences under Section 302, 201 read with 34 IPC and summoned Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar as accused in the case for February 28," CBI counsel R K Saini told reporters.

u00a0The dentist couple have been made accused under sections 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) and section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.
The CBI had, on Tuesday, said that circumstantial evidence points to the involvement of the couple in the death of their daughter and servant Hemraj.

"Our stand was that the probe of the Investigating Officer proves no outsider was involved in this (Aarushi-Hemraj deaths). Servants are not involved in this and circumstantial evidence points to the fact that parents have committed the crime," Saini had said. Meanwhile, the lawyer for the Talwars, Rebecca John, said they will approach a superior court for striking down this order.
