The glass isn’t going to remain half empty for students of Kendriya Vidyalaya at Kanjurmarg in the days to come. After MiD DAY reported on August 1 (‘School’s water woes leave students parched’) about the taps and drinking water facilities at the institution running dry for two years, some Shiv Sena activists submitted an application with BMC’s S-ward to secure a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the school to build a new bore well. The establishment has now received the authorisation.

Apart from one of the two water coolers at the institution being out of commission, the children were also complaining about the aggravation because of inadequate water supply in the toilets.

Pradeep Sawant, a Sena member and senator from Mumbai University, said, “Soon after reading the article in MiD DAY, Aditya Thackeray, president of Yuva Sena, asked us to rush to the help of the school. We submitted a fresh application for the institution to BMC and got the NOC to build a bore well in the proximity.”

BMC not only granted permission for the bore well, but also asked for the institution to develop a suction pit at a suitable location on the plot, to be utilised for rainwater harvesting and recharging of the well.

Indradevi Jain, principal in-charge of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanjurmarg, said, “We have got the go-ahead to build the bore well and BMC has also asked us to make provisions for rainwater harvesting. Both sanctions were granted last week.

The bore well work will start from Tuesday so that water is instantly provided to students. The water cooler has been repaired. We will also be revamping the restrooms.”u00a0
