14-year-old dies as wall collapses on him

The body for a 14-year-old boy was found in the premise of Government Polytechnic College in Kherwadi yesterday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Shashi Baswal, was found under a heap of debris by a local resident.

He was rushed to the VN Desai hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Baswal, a class VIII student, lived with his family near Shitla Devi Mandir in Kherwadi. According to a family member, Baswal had his meal around 11 am and left from home to play with his friends.

Umesh Kantharia, who first spotted the body, said, “Around 2 pm, when I went near the window of my house, I spotted a body buried under the debris. Terrified, I called cops from Nirmal Nagar police station.”

Police say, prima facie it seems the boy may have gone to the college to play with his friends. As college is closed because of Diwali, he may have tried to climb the wall, which may have fallen on him leading to his death.

PSI Kumar Gaurav Dhadvad of Nirmal Nagar police station said, “Although it seems to be a case of accidental death, we are probing all possible angles.” Cops have found copper wires in the bag that Baswal was carrying. “I just can’t believe that my son is dead. I have lost everything. As usual, he had gone to play with his friends but never returned,” said Baswal’s distraught father at Bhabha hospital where the teenager’s body was taken for postmortem.u00a0
