Concerned that her daughter would get drenched in the rains, Aarthi Singh called her and asked her to take shelter. Little did she know that she would regret this advice.
Sanjana (18), a Std XII student of Airforce Central School, was returning from tuitions when it began raining heavily.
While she was rushing home, she received a call from her mother asking her to take shelter nearby, as she would get drenched.

Sanjana took shelter in a compound opposite the the Karnataka Veterinary Animal & Fishery Science University in Hebbal and then called back her mother to inform her about her location.
As the teenager stood near the college, the compound wall collapsed and she was buried under it. The incident occurred around 7 pm.
Passersby tried to rescue the girl, but their efforts were in vain.

They immediately informed the fire brigade and the police. Within minutes the fire personnel rushed to the spot and tried to pull Sanjana out of the debris. However, when rescued after half an hour, she was out of breath.
They rushed her to the nearby Baptist Hospital, but doctors said that she had succumbed to her injuries.

This is the third death since May 16 after heavy rain lashed the city.
