210 litres of kerosene seized in raid

The owner of a shop in the city was arrested at 10.45 pm last night for illegally stocking kerosene. The police seized 210 litres of kerosene from Punyai Super Market in Rajewadi, Nana Peth

The owner of a shop in the city was arrested at 10.45 pm last night for illegally stocking kerosene. The police seized 210 litres of kerosene from Punyai Super Market in Rajewadi, Nana Peth.

The arrested shop owner was identified as Rajendra Chunilal Unecha (40), a resident of Nana Peth.

Unecha was arrested under Section 3(1) of the Essential Commodities Act of 1955, which deals with illegal and non-licensed stocking of goods.

The raid was conducted by the Police Sub-Inspector Bhimrao Gajre of the Samarth police station and his staff. "The kerosene in the shop godown was worth Rs 2,604 as per the government rate of Rs 2.40 per litre," Gajre said.

The raid followed a complaint by Savita Keshav Jadhav, a food supply inspector under the department of Food Grain Distribution Cell, D Division.

"This is the third such police raid in 10 days," said Gajre.
