A 22-year-old engineering student allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of his college building last evening in Vile Parle (West). The police are unaware of what triggered the suicide, as no suicide note has been recovered.

The Juhu police said that the deceased, Omkar Chakravarty, leapt off a room from the 7th floor of Mukesh Patel Engineering College at V L Mehta Road, Juhu around 4.45 pm. Chakravarty was a fourth year MBA student and a native of Chennai.

The police said that his friends rushed him to Cooper Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The hospital authorities then informed the police about the incident.

“There is no foul play involved and we have filed an accidental death report. The incident was recorded on a CCTV camera that was installed on the seventh floor, from where Chakravarty jumped. It is a clear case of suicide. His body has been sent for an autopsy,” said Arun Bhagat, senior inspector at Juhu police station.

The police informed Chakravarty’s family in Chennai and they have left for the city. The police are recording statements of Chakravarty’s friends to learn if he was depressed. The police have also seized Chakravarty’s mobile phone and will go through his call details for further leads in the case.u00a0
