Gustave Eiffel, the man you have to thank for the Eiffel Tower, was born on December 15, 1832. Here's what you didn't know about one of the world's most visited monuments

It was initially supposed to stand for 20 years and then be torn down. Of course, that never happened.

The Eiffel Tower is home to antennas of all sorts, including a 324 metre-high television mast.

Le Figaro set up a printing press on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower in 1889. The paper is still published on site and visitors who buy it can have their name inscribed on their copy.

The Eiffel Tower is completely repainted every seven years.

The Eiffel Tower is six inches taller in the summer than in the winter because steel expands in heat.

Erika La Tour Eiffel, an ex-US Army officer, is married to the tower (yes, you heard that right.) Apparently, she has a condition called 'objectum sexual', where an individual transfers normal romantic and sexual feelings onto an inanimate object, usually a large public structure of some sort.
