The accident took place on Sunday around 11 pm on the Ahmednagar-Pune highway just 10 kilometers from Shirur. On Monday, around 6 pm the Supa police which comes under the jurisdiction of Ahmednagar police along with local residents -- Sangram Kandekar, Aakshay Kandekar, Sharad Shelke, Baliram Shelke and Kiran Shelke -- managed to fish out the bodies. They took one more hour to pulled out the car from the canal.

According to the police, “Jadhav runs a trust and is a director of Anand Sai Trust which is NGO at Parner Phata near Pune meant for hearing-disabled children. Jadhav was driving his car (MH14-CC 755) and returning back to Pune from their pilgrimage from Sai Baba at Shirdi. We assumed that the accident took place around 11 pm as the road is isolated near the canal and a local resident heard a huge noise in canal. The locals all rushed to check but did not notice anything. Later, another local resident noticed some of the car's tool lying on the road and the broken divider.”

He added, “They alerted us. Immediately with the help of local residents we tried to find out what had transpired, but it was too dark.
