Academic Audit Committee's report states that the colleges do not have proper infrastructure, teaching staff; BU may cancel their affiliation soon
According to a report submitted by the Academic Audit Committee to the Bangalore University, 41 city colleges that offer the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course will be shut down soon.
The committee prepared its report after inspecting the 142 B.Ed colleges that exist in Bangalore.
The committee, in its report, has stated that the colleges don't have proper infrastructure and teaching staff that's required for the course. Several institutes are even functioning out of small rooms.

He added, "These colleges mostly have students from North India who don't attend lectures. They just take the admission and leave for their native state. They only come back to give their exam."
Dr Talawar said that several colleges don't even have qualified staff and are operating with just one or two lecturers.
According to sources, some of the colleges have hired B.Ed graduates to teach students.
Some of the colleges don't even conduct practical training in teaching and seminars but generously give internal assessment marks to the students.
"When the practical examination squad visited the colleges for inspection, it found that some of the colleges didn't even bother conducting practical exams," said Dr Talawar.
It's believed that the rampant malpractice is happening due to the non-existence of the co-ordination committee that used to keep a check on B.Ed colleges.
B Ed boom in Bangalore |
In the academic year 2003-04, the city had only 20 B.Ed colleges. However, the number increased to 133 in 2004-05. The reason behind the increase in number of institutions offering the course is believed to be a circular that was released in 2004-05 stating that any college having proper infra-structure can start the B.Ed course. |
