6 hurt as BJP imposes shutdown in Bihar

Nearly half-a-dozen people were injured in a clash, several trains were stopped and roads were blocked yesterday after the BJP began a statewide shutdown to protest against what it called a betrayal by the JD-U. An angry BJP observed yesterday as the ‘Vishwasghat Diwas’ in the state.

The cracks between the BJP and JD-U appeared after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar opposed BJP’s decision to make Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi its public face for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Nearly half a dozen workers of the BJP and the JD-U were injured after they clashed and attacked each other with bamboo sticks and iron rods in Patna during the shutdown. According to police officials, JD-U spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan and three other party leaders were injured in the melee. The clashes took place after the BJP workers raised slogans against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and JD-U workers countered them by raising slogans against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, an official said.
