The post-mortem report revealed that the victim had been asphyxiated. Parappa Baidnath Gorse, a resident of New Bharat Nagar at Vashinaka has been absconding from the day the crime was committed.

According to the police, the incident took place on August 20 last year, when Gorse returned home in an inebriated condition and found his daughter, Ankita (6) and son Aniket (8), watching television. He reprimanded them for not concentrating on their studies and began thrashing his daughter. Aniket attempted to stop him, but it only enraged the accused. While Ankita managed to escape from the home, the accused smothered Aniket with a bed sheet and hid the body of the eight-year-old in a plastic container and fled.

When Gorse’s wife, Jyoti, returned home and found her son was missing, she began searching for him. After a two-hour hunt she returned home and was shocked to discover Aniket’s body in the plastic container. A neighbour of the accused said that Gorse was a habitual drinker and unpredictable. “He was a very moody person and drank everyday.”

The victim’s viscera was sent to the Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory and the police registered a case of murder against Gorse after the post-mortem revealed that the boy died due to asphyxiation. “I don’t know what happened on that day as I was at my village. We are still shocked as to why he did this. Though he was a heavy drinker, he really loved his children and was not a cruel person,” said Tangabai Gorse, mother of the accused.

Dilip Yadav, Senior Inspector of RCF police station, said, “On August 20, while the children were watching TV, the accused returned home and scolded them. He first attacked his daughter and when Aniket came between to save her, he began beating him. The girl went to her aunt’s house and Gorse killed his son and put the body in a drum.” u00a0
