Six constables who damaged protesters' vehicles have been suspended and it is likely that two officers who allegedly opened fire while chasing the mob will also meet the same fate. An initial investigation by the police has revealed that two officers chased the mob and opened fire on protestors who were running for life.

Officers who controlled the mob peacefully at 18 such spots said the blunder by two officers had ruined the reputation of the entire force. Police sources said Police Inspector Ashok Patil of Saswad and Sub Inspector Mane of Vadgaon-Maval police station chased the mob and opened fire at least five times.

"These things will come to light in the judicial inquiry. But we have ordered inquiry against these officers who opened fire at their own discretion," said Superintendent of Police Sandip Karnik.

According to sources, six officers, including Karnik, opened fire on the unruly mob and two officers even chased the crowd and fired at them. Inside sources said that when their blunder was pointed out to them, the two officers did not even show any remorse for their deeds.

The protests took place on at least 18 spots peacefully, barring Baur, where three protestors died in police firing. Seven sustained bullet injuries. Apart from the two officers, five to six constables were found guilty of damaging vehicles on the service road to Karur on Tuesday.
