On a daily basis, at least 10,000 commuters travel to Mumbai by Volvo and alight at Thane, Borivli and Dadar. Several commuters from Kothrud had demanded that Volvo service to Dadar should be start from Swargate bus depot, as they had to travel all the way to Shivajinagar or Pune railway station to avail the bus service.
A total of 16 trips would be carried out between Swargate and Dadar from 7 am to 10 pm daily. Swargate Depot Manager Vijay Divate said, “There is a huge demand for Pune-Mumbai Shivaneri service and is considered as the most profitable route.
Till date, from Swargate, Volvos were available only for Thane and Borivli. Locals wanting to travel to Dadar wither went to Pune station or Shivajinagar. For the last three years, we have been demanding commencement of this service from Swargate but due shortage of buses it took time.”
He said eight new Volvos for Swargate-Dadar route would be inducted by the end of October. “Once we get delivery of all the Volvo buses by November 1, we will start online reservation facility for commuters,” said Divate.
Keeping in mind the upcoming diwali holiday, the MSRTC plans to have additional 900 services operating from Engineering College Ground in Shivajinagar. Additional buses would be operated from November 8 to November 12.u00a0
