A new initiative by the Japanese government just brought Japan closer to India, with more than 58 food and beverage products available across the city, and a lifestyle store that stocks artefacts and kimonos







Anuj Jodhani, Director, maidoindia sees this as an attempt to up awareness about Jap culture. "We are trying to bring India closer to Japan. More than 58 products, that are likely to appeal to Indian taste, have been imported," he says.u00a0

Going beyond Sushi, Miso Soup and tofu, this spread brings you organic Cherry Blossom and Fig Jam (Rs 520) made with cherry blossom petals, Hokkaido Milk Pudding (Rs 300), Onigiri rice crackers with soya sauce (Rs 175), Ringo Apple 100 (Rs 150) which is a blend of five types of Amori apples and crunchy-dried squids (Rs 230).

Mohit Khattar, MD, Godrej Nature's Basket, where au00a0 Japan Shop kiosk is located, says the response has been good, and they are looking to add crackers, tempura and pickles over the next few days. "Japanese food and snacks that were available at high-end restaurants and to a select few only, are now more accessible," he says.
