Friends and police say she had a drinking problem which led to her death
Airhostess Anupama Acharya who fell to her death from the fifth storey of a Mumbai building was afraid she'd be fired after she missed a flight.
A flight attendant, who wants to remain anonymous, said, "Anupama had serious problems. She was addicted to a lot of things. I guess what drove her to do this was that she missed the flight the day before and was upset that she would be fired. But she always had problems with drinking."
DCP Mumbai K M M Prasanna confirmed that he told MiD DAY that the 20-year-old from Hubli was drunk when she had a tiff with her fiance Samar Yajurvedi.
As a result, the case has not been registered as suicide. "It's booked as unnatural death. Samar has also given his statement saying it happened in a fit of rage," he said.
Martin Varghese, a co-pilot and Samar's friend, said the two were in a relationship for the past month-and-a-half and were planning to get married. "They were happy for a while."
