With the governor asking for files regarding the CM's alleged land scam, speculation is rife that he may face prosecution

With the governor taking cognisance of the allegations against Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, all attention is on Raj Bhavan over the fate of the BJP leader. Sources say that while the governor, H R Bharadwaj, is likely to sanction the prosecution of Yeddyurappa in alleged land scams, the Congress is going to use this opportunity to tip the balance of power in the state.

Yeddyurappa's imminent prosecution has created a buzz in political corridors ever since a group of lawyers met Bharadwaj last month, requesting him to take action against the CM. Now, the governor asking for the files related to the alleged scam has only provided fodder for rumour mills.

With the media carrying frequent reports, political circles witnessed hectic activities and deliberations among various groups in the BJP, and Opposition parties including the Congress and the BJP.

Yeddyurappa made a quick trip to Delhi, on Sunday, to meet Nitin Gadkari, national president, BJP, before the latter left for his China tour, adding to speculations. However, Congress sources said that the party high command is not in hurry to take a call on this yet.

"It is a sensitive issue and the party does not want to come out looking negative by prosecuting the CM when the central government is under attack for corruption charges," said a source.

"It takes some time before the high command shows a clear stand on this." However, the high command is understood to have directed the local leaders to create a public opinion on the state government's corruption by keeping the issue alive.

Congress leaders are chalking out plans to protest against the state government, while a JD(S) delegation met the governor yesterday, urging him to dismiss the government.

"Raj Bhavan has become a hub of politics with the governor behaving as a Congress politician. We are going to urge the Central Government to recall him," said D B Chandre Gowda, a BJP MP from Bangalore (North).

In the meantime, Yeddyurappa is dropping hints of going for elections after presetting the budget, next month, which is apparently a tactic to divert the Opposition's and his detractors' attention.

"Yeddyurappa is repetitively talking of the polls these days. In all probability he will not go for fresh polls," said a source close to him.
