Despite the prohibitory orders, areas around Vidhan Soudha and Raj Bhavan witnessed a riot-like situation yesterday. Thousands of supporters of the opposition parties violated Section 144 and took to the streets to express their displeasure. The event took place soon after the declaration was made that the ruling BJP has proved its majority in the house.

However, the disorder turned out to be a boon for some. Ice cream vendors near Raj Bhavan made the most of the chaos yesterday.

"As it was very hot, protesters bought lots of ice cream from me. In just a few hours, I made a good Rs 2,000. There was so much demand that I ran out of stock and had to order for more," said Girish, an ice cream vendor. Besides, peanut and cucumber sellers did good business too.

Likewise, even pickpockets too had nice time. While the huge crowd shouted slogans against the government, pickpockets slickly did their job. "I had Rs 2,000 in my wallet. But when I checked my pocket, I was shocked to find my wallet missing. Somebody had cut my pocket with a blade and stole my money," said Sayedappa, a Yadgir resident.
