Addressing a press conference here, Chavan said the BJP-led government in the state should concede these demands immediately as the farmers were facing an unprecedented crisis.
"About 70 farmers are committing suicide every month. As an urgent remedial measure, government should announce a complete loan waiver," he said.
Besides, the farmers should also be provided with free seeds for the coming season, he added. He also hit out at the NDA government at the Centre for not fulfilling the election promises in the last one year.
"BJP (government) waived the storage limit at godowns to benefit the hoarders. It failed to control rising prices of essential commodities. It could not bring the black money back from foreign banks, nor could it control the terrorism," he said.
He also said that "I have strong doubts that RSS and BJP are behind the emergence of MIM, but the growth of MIM can be stopped if Congress worked with more commitment."
