Relief for the thousands of commuters has finally arrived three days after 45,000 autos held the city to ransom. The autowallahs decided to call off their strike last night.

Relief for the thousands of commuters has finally arrived three days after 45,000 autos held the city to ransom. The autowallahsu00a0 decided to call off their strike last night.

Commuters had been left stranded after one of the auto unions decided to go on a strike on Saturday forcing other unions to join them. Rickshaws went off the roads after Dr Baba Adhav, president, Rikshaw Panchayat was arrested on Saturday morning.

The autorickshaw unions demanded for a fare hikeu00a0 linking it with the recently hike in petrol and diesel prices.

They demanded to revoke the earlier fare pattern of Rs 10 for first kilometer and Rs 8 for every extra kilometer.
Apart from this, they want Public Service batches to be given to all drivers.

The strike was called off on last evening after Autorickshaw Federation along with Police Commissioner and Adhav and his union members met n the morning.

Baba Shinde, memeber, Regional Transport Authority said, "We have accepted their appeal to roll back Re 1 to the existing fare and will send the application to the RTA. For the batches, there is another meeting after eight days."

The decision to review the fine structure on three and four wheelers is yet to be worked on.
