BIA screening for swine flu

In the wake of World Health Organisation warning that a global swine flu pandemic was imminent, Bengaluru International Airport has placed a team of doctors to screening all international passengers, senior health department officials said.

"Twenty four doctors are already on duty at BIA to screen international passengers", Regional Director Health and Family Welfare Services, Dr Anbazhagan told PTI. "Out of the 24, 10 doctors have been posted for night duty as international passenger traffic is at its peak in night," he said.

Anbazhagan said so far no passenger has been detected with symptoms of Swine Flu. He said an integrated action plan to tackle the disease would be chalked out at a meeting convened by the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare services tomorrow, which would be attended by heads of all medical institutes in the city. "So far only Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases has been identified as fit to quarantine and treat passengers suspected with the flu symptoms," Anbhazhagan said.
