Maharashtra Congress will not take the hacking of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and the party’s Twitter account lightly. It has also warned the BJP against protecting people who are involved in the incident.
Speaking to mid-day, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said that securing Twitter handles was a tough job, but they did not expect the use of lewd remarks and unparliamentary language against party vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Gandhi’s account was hacked yesterday evening, after which hackers broke into the Congress party account.
"This is nothing, but the work of pervert people. We suspect that it’s an organised effort that has the government’s protection. We did not expect our haters to stoop to such behaviour,” said Sawant.
He said the language the hackers used showed that they were well-educated people working in the IT sector. “I strongly believe that they are protected by the government and may not be found by the agencies at all,” he said.
When asked if the party has formally or informally advised its members to secure their social media accounts, Sawant said that such platforms hardly provided any security. “We know that changing passwords won’t help. But, the dirty minds working for the BJP should understand that they are sending out a wrong message to the new generation. They are dirtying politics further by targeting individuals in the most heinous manner.”
