BMTC incurring loss due to Volvo
BMTC's much-hyped Volvo buses are burning a hole in its pocket.

BMTC is incurring a loss of Rs 1.5 crores every month on an average because of the Volvo buses. This is mainly due to traffic congestion and poor response from the public on account of costly fares.
Most of the buses run with an average of 15 passengers whereas the capacity is 45 passengers.
Passengers have their own complaints. The women's special buses, for instance, are not always available on the more frequented routes and during rush hours.
BMTC officials admit the corporation does not get much out of these special services.
Several new initiatives are regularly introduced, from new routes to special services to daily passes and swanky air-conditioned buses. The Vajras and the Vayu Vajras to Bengaluru International Airport have been well-received, but the special dedicated services that ply around the city are yet to kick off.
