Filed complaint after professor noticed that some papers meant for re-evaluation had been tampered with and re-stitched

Bangalore University has filed a police complaint after finding that answer sheets meant for re-evaluation were tampered with.

This comes a little over a month after the University set up a committee to investigate examination irregularities.

K Puttaraju, registrar (evaluation), said in his complaint that Professor N Byregowda, coordinator of reevaluation, first noticed the discrepancies.

He then sent a complaint to Puttaraju, seeking investigation.

Ulsoorgate police have taken up the case but refuse to comment saying investigations are at a preliminary stage. "We need to question the staff who were deployed during the examination and at the time of re-evaluation," a police officer said.

The story so far

Bangalore University set up a commission in June this year to investigate the marks card scandal which occurred between 2007 and 2009 the awarding of marks on blank sheets and altering marks in certificates. It will also investigate the appointment of a custodian and his role in the examinations between 2007 and 2009.

It was decided to set up the committee at a syndicate meet after members Y A Narayana Swamy and D Ayyappa raised the issue of M Jayalakshmi Devi who was trapped by the Lokayukta while accepting a bribe.

Jayalakshmi was heading the local inquiry committee (LIC) to inspect colleges affiliated to Bangalore University.

The inquiry will also look into the appointment of 20 teaching posts, including that of six to eight professors.u00a0

"The appointments appear to have been made after throwing all norms to the winds, including violating the roster system. Posts reserved for backward communities have been given to candidates from a particular community," said a senior official of BU.
