Violating a university statute, Singh, an IPS officer, is pursuing his MBA while also drawing a salary from the same department as a guest faculty.

Singh's triple role of a registrar, student and teacher seems to have paid rich dividends. He has passed the fifth semester exams with a first class and is now busy appearing for the final semester exams.

"The registrar is the custodian of all the records of the university including answer scripts," said A P Ranganatha, a syndicate member. "No wonder he has passed in first class."

"What's more important is the illegality of Singh pursuing studies in the university where he is the administrative head," said Ranganatha.

Safe for now

MiD DAY had carried a series of reports on these illegalities, and the authorities had even recommended transferring him back to the police department. However, Singh managed to survive, thanks to his close links with BJP national president Rajnath Singh.

"So as long as BJP rules the state, nobody can displace Singh. Political bigwigs are throwing their weight behind him," said a syndicate member requesting anonymity.

Lesson learnt

Last time, when MiD DAY caught Singh on camera writing the exams, he had not taken leave from his office. This time, however, he has. When MiD DAY called up to congratulate Singh on his results, he said, "Thanks" and wasn't interested in continuing the conversation.

Refusing to comment on the issue, Dr V N Prabhudev, vice-chancellor of Bangalore University, said, "I will have to see what exactly is going on, and I may be able to comment only after going through the records."
