Six months after the PCB worked on the roads in the area, moderate rainfall in the city has exposed the shoddy work

Saccha Peer-resident Vinayak Katkar has been suffering from back pain for nearly a month and the 49-year-old blames the pothole ridden-roads in Camp for this. The arrival of the monsoon last month seems to have revealed the shoddy work done by the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB).

"Roads in areas like Modi khana, Centre Street, MG Road, and Dhobighat have potholes that have become a major problem for residents. We registered our complaints to officials at PCB, but have only received excuses like lack of sufficient funds to repair the roads," said Katkar.

Yesterday, Solapur Bazar-resident Ajit Jadhav witnessed two people falling off their two-wheelers after going over a pothole on Solapur road. "We took them to the nearby hospital. These potholes have become a nightmare for motorists," said Jadhav.

Meanwhile, traffic snarls on Solapur road ensure that Poolgate Chowk resident Amol Argade reports late to work almost every day. "The bumpy road forces people to drive slowly, leading to traffic jams during peak hours. I end up reaching my office late," he said.

Shoddy work
"It has only been six months since the PCB spent a hefty amount to work on all the roads of the Camp area.

However, the moderate rainfall in the last one month has exposed their low-quality work," said Shashi Puram, a local BJP leader. He alleged that the same kind of work was done last year as well.

"As compared to the rest of the city, the population under the PCB is small and the movement of vehicles is also limited. And still, the roads in Camp area are of poor quality, which shows the kind of work the civic body has done despite residents' complaints," said Puram.
