Dermatologists lambaste ads that link hair loss to change in water after relocating

If you've recently moved to a new city and find yourself losing hair and you just happen to find an advertisement promising you miraculous hair growth, be warned that's just a trichologist preying on your vanity. And that's according to experts in the city.
Dermatologists declare that relocating to a new city does not in any way cause hair fall. With advertisements targetting those losing hair saying the change in water is a cause for their misery is nothing but an old wives' tale.
M K Shetty, Director of Skin, Hair and Cosmetic Laser Clinic, said, "There is no legitimate claim to it. Hair shedding is not triggered by water. There are other causes like stress." He added, "It's unfair to blame the water. And people should be cautious about those ads claiming miraculous recovery, because on an average it takes about 17 weeks to see a result."
Kavita Mandal, a dermatologist with Kaya Skin Clinic, said, "There are other reasons for hair loss. Water has nothing to do with it. Hormonal imbalances, lack of protein or any prolonged illness that reduces immunity is a major cause" She added, "I would advise those losing hair not to believe such ads."
Loss of beauty
Thimappah, a Psychologist and former Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University, said, "Hair has always been associated with beauty so its loss automatically means loss of beauty and youth. Most become vulnerable and fall prey to such advertisements."
He added, "I personally don't approve of this. Doctors who break the Hippocratic Oath are just wrong."
