Do our investigating agencies have different rules for different people? Many are asking the question after observing the fate of the two co-owners of DB Realty, a firm that is creating news for all the wrong reasons because of its alleged role in the 2G spectrum scam. While Shahid Balwa had his CBI custody extended by a special court on Monday, his partner Vinod Goenka has so far largely managed to remain away from the limelight.

Sources said that whereas Shahid Balwa is believed to be closely associated with the underworld - allegedly Dawood Ibrahim, Vinod Goenka allegedly has close links with a union minister. "There are strong suspicions that the company has links with the underworld and we have reasons to believe it," sources stated.

Vinod Goenka is also an Indian Billionaire with a net worth of $1.05 billion, according to Forbes 2010 Data. 50-year-old Goenka is married, having two children, and lives in Mumbai. He dropped out of college to join his father's small construction firm in Mumbai and helped to expand it into the Dynamix Group whose main interest is in the dairy business. Later he partnered with the Balwa family in 1999 to build a Meridien Hotel near Mumbai's international airport. The partnership later became DB Realty.u00a0
