A 17-year-old girl who was implicated in a theft case after she accused a ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator from Banda of raping her, was released from jail Saturday, officials said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati earlier Saturday announced the girl's release.
The 17-year-old victim, who belongs to the other backward classes (OBC), accused Purshottam Naresh Dwivedi and his henchmen of not only subjecting her to gang-rape but also using his influence to falsely implicate her in a theft case.
