It's all about the 'basics' at Capri Italy. The joint serves pizzas with healthy base options, and yup, they live up to our taste levels, too
As I sailed through Defence Colony's crowded culinary waters in pursuit of truly fine Italian food, my feet suddenly anchored at 28 Capri Italy. Trusting my sixth sense and urged by my salivary glands, I walked in. A back lane showed us into a little lift that took us to the second floor, to the place where Little Italy stood some time back. Capri Italy is spread over two floorsu00a0-- the second is a fine dining area and the third a cafu00e9 u2014 with a total cover capacity of 50.
White knight: The white and blue du00e9cor is simple yet contemporary
Punjab to Italy
The front door welcomed us with two aquaria, and we decided to settle down on the seating space across the big window, with a bird's eye view of the plush market. The du00e9cor is simple and the place reeks of comfort. There's a huge clock on the wall, and the interiors are done in white and blue, offering a rather Mediterranean experience. "This is the only Italian restaurant of its kind in the vicinity, and we are proud to serve you original Italian cuisine" announced a proud Hargurdev Singh, the owner. We at first thought it vain, but well, the fare quite lived up.
Cheese and ease
Expect all that makes Italy yummyu00a0-- pizzas, risottos and pastas, among other evergreens. I sampled their mushroom soup that turned out to be quite appetising when teamed up with a Greek and Caesar salad. It's creamy alright, but not OTT. Thank God. Then, I was advised by the manager to try out their Involtini for starters, the signature dish. This popular Italian preparation, which is unique for the fact that anything can be filled inside it, was filled with herbed-chicken pellets and cheese laced with their garlic and white wine in this restaurant's version. Fortunately, it wasn't disappointing at all. Next on the menu was grilled chicken in mustard sauce. Tantalising and tingly.
Lasagne's turn. I enjoyed the spinach and mushroom variant and a Sicilia pizza with a wheat base to go with it. Even if you were not a health freak, I would strongly recommend going for the wheat pastas here, simply for their taste and unconventionality of ingredients. There is also a well-stocked bar and an array of mocktails to go with the traditional delicacies.
Sweet meets
I went for their specialtyu00a0-- the Brownie Sizzler. Served with an ice cream scoop on a sizzling plate with melted chocolate all over the place, it was an ideal end. If you are a chocolate freak, you can dig into the Chocolate Bomb, a very thin and delicate chocolate-flavoured flour crust stuffed to the gills with hot and creamy chocolate that pours out in rivers the moment you puncture the crust. The owner did have good reason behind being inflated, after all!
