The Dombivli resident, who was returning home after meeting his sister in Satara, was injured when the car ferrying four other passengers, hit a truck after it cut lanes; three of them died on the spot
A 29-year-old, returning to the city after meeting his sister for Bhau Beej, is now in hospital with injuries, after the car he was in met with a horrific accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in the wee hours of Wednesday. The accident left two injured and killed three on the spot. Around 4.30 am on Wednesday, a car travelling from Satara to Mumbai hit a container truck at Asudgaon in Khanda colony, Panvel.

Explaining the crash, a police official said that the truck driver changed lanes without giving any indication, owing to which the driver of the car lost control and rammed into the truck. Minutes after the fatal crash, the injured were rushed to MGM Hospital in Kalamboli whereas the dead were taken to Panvel Municipal Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Shirishkumar Sarjerao Jadhav (21), Sweetesh Ashok Jadhav (22) and Dhananjay Prithviraj Bhosale(22). The driver of the car Mahesh More (26) and another passenger Kailash Yadav (29), who works for an auto rickshaw union in Dombilvi, were rushed to hospital with injuries.
Recounting the incident, Yadav said, “I had gone to Satara on Tuesday to meet my sister, as it was Bhau Beej. Never in my wildest imagination did I think that such an incident would occur. It all happened so fast that I still don’t know what exactly took place.
All I could feel was the impact.” Shahaji Yadav, Kailash’s father, added, “He had gone for a day owing to the festivities. We suddenly got a call on Wednesday about the accident and rushed to the hospital. We are so grateful that he survived.”
Doctor speaks
Doctors at MGM Hospital said that the injured were brought to the institute around 6.15 am. Dr RL Gognath, acting medical superintendent of the hospital, said, “The two injured suffered no major facial abrasions. While Yadav sustained abrasions to his left arm and his right wrist, More suffered abrasions to his upper thigh.”
Police have identified that the three deceased were residents of Koregaon in Satara and used to work in the city. Pratap Bhosale, assistant sub-inspector, Khandeshwar police station, said, “Two of the passengers were returning from Satara when they picked up the other three passengers.
At 4.30 am, they met with the crash, after which the driver of the truck fled. We have booked the container driver under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC, and the vehicle has been confiscated.” He added that no traces of alcohol were found in the driver of the car.u00a0
